High-fire stoneware. (c. 2011-12)
Inspired by Jun Kaneko, a Japanese-born ceramic artist now based in Omaha, NE, these sculptures are enclosed forms, thrown on a wheel before being pounded flat and textured.
The word dango is Japanese for “dumpling,” a form Kaneko uses often in his work, and one I find very interesting, due to it’s simplicity and versatility. It’s an amazing form for experimentation with shapes, textures, and surface decoration.
These pieces range in size, from 6-9 inches tall, 6-9 inches wide, and 3 inches thick.
