High-fire Stoneware. (c. 2011)
These pieces were born out of an experiment with colorants to test out engobes that were available in the studio in which I was working at the time, and how they would react with the standard clear glaze we used. The textured forms were brushed with engobe, then wiped off to leave only a small amount trapped in the surface texture. Colorants used (from left to right) were rutile, copper, cobalt, and iron, with the rightmost form colored with black mason stain. The forms were then coated in clear glaze and fired in reduction to Cone 10.
Sizes range from approximately 6 to 10 inches in height.
